Hosted by Northern Piedmont Community Foundation, Give Local Piedmont (GLP) is an online giving opportunity to support the Culpeper Free Clinic and other nonprofit organizations that are making our region stronger.
Early giving online begins on April 20, 2021. On May 4, Give Local Piedmont Day, donations may be made through midnight.
Give Local Piedmont is a critical fundraiser for the Free Clinic, helping to support the clinic’s mission to offer medical care for low-income adults who don’t have health insurance. Everyone should be able to see a doctor when they are sick. And with regular medical care, Free Clinic patients stay healthier.
Without the support of community members like you, people who rely on the clinic would not have access to medical care. That would lead to more life threatening illnesses, and higher medical costs due to increased unnecessary emergency room visits. Community members continue to face challenges presented by the pandemic such as job losses and resulting loss of health insurance. Current uncertainties translate to greater struggles for already vulnerable community members. Free Clinic services are needed more than ever before.
Over the last year, diagnostic, treatment and preventative services at the clinic have continued to be available with safety protocols in place to protect clients and staff. Patients have been served by telehealth online consultations. Covid-19 services for patients included testing and, more recently, vaccinations (in partnership with Remington Drug Company).
An initiative to support healthy eating will yield a summer bounty. A partnership with the Minority and Veteran Farmers of the Piedmont, Virginia Cooperative Extension and Whole Heart Farm resulted in construction of cedar garden boxes in front of the clinic. The boxes were recently planted with vegetables, and clinic patients, staff and neighbors are looking forward to the harvest.
