Our Mission
To improve health and promote wellness in Culpeper, Madison, and Orange counties.
The Foundation works to achieve its mission by:
- providing health and fitness programming and services
- ensuring the availability of high quality medical care for low-income, uninsured adults, and
- providing mission related grants to local nonprofits
The Culpeper Wellness Foundation operates PATH Recreation & Fitness Center, Powell Wellness Center and the Free Clinic of Culpeper.
The Foundation holds a unique role in the community as a provider of services, a grantmaker and a partner in the pursuit of building healthier communities.

Free Clinic of Culpeper
The Free Clinic of Culpeper provides confidential medical care and prescription medications for Culpeper county adults who do not have health insurance or the means to pay for healthcare.
With the support of five paid staff and dozens of volunteers, the Free Clinic provides primary and urgent care, prescription medications, and patient education for more than 500 uninsured low-income adults who are residents of Culpeper County. The Free Clinic also collaborates with several community resources to help meet other needs of our patients. These resources include service providers for behavioral health, dental care, transportation, housing, literacy, employment and job training, and nutrition counseling.
Powell Wellness Center
Powell Wellness Center (PWC), recognized in 2018 as Certified Medical Fitness Facility of the Year, is one of only two Medical Fitness Association-certified facilities in Virginia. A volunteer Medical Advisory Board guides staff in the development and delivery of medically-integrated fitness programs that help children and adults improve their physical and emotional well-being through health education, regular exercise and increased physical activity.
Powell offers a variety of group exercise classes and aquatic programs. Facility highlights include a climate-controlled walking track with a two-lane surface with a cushioned rubberized floor and an aquatic arena. The aquatic arena includes a warm-water pool, two warm-water pockets for therapy, a two-lane walking oval with chest-high water and a current, and lap lanes for swimming or aqua classes.
PATH Recreation & Fitness Center
PRFC will offer recreation and fitness opportunities for all ages in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The fitness area is now open and the recreation area will open in June 2022. When fully open, the center will comprise 27,000 square feet of recreation, fitness, activity room and amenity space. Multi-use sport courts will accommodate basketball, volleyball and pickleball for individual practice, open gym and league play. Practice your swing in indoor batting cages or polish your skills with a golf/multi-sport simulator.
In the fitness area, enjoy top-of-the-line cardio equipment, strength and functional fitness equipment and exercise classes. Personal training and small group training will support achievement of your goals safely and successfully. Bring your family – kids’ programs include boot camp, taekwondo, youth sports performance and tumbling.
