Register for “Wellness Made Easy” to build the skills and confidence you need to take charge of your health. In this welcoming, easy-to-understand program, you’ll learn how to read medication labels, understand doctor’s instructions, ask the right questions, and navigate the healthcare system. Whether you’re managing your own health or supporting a loved one, this class empowers you with practical knowledge to make informed decisions and improve well-being—no medical background needed.

Applicants can request funding up to $10,000 to support projects or activities that will be completed by March 31, 2027.  Our Community Grants Committee volunteer members will review the applications and determine which requests are funded.  Applicants will be notified of the status of their application by May 22, 2026.

Grant recipients must be organizations recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or be a school, municipality or other subdivision of government.  Organizations that do not have public charity status may apply for grants if a public charity acts as a fiscal sponsor.

“The Foundation’s mission is to improve health and promote wellness in Culpeper, Madison and Orange counties,” states Shari Landry, President of Culpeper Wellness Foundation. “The Healthy Living Grants Program allows us to support the efforts of local nonprofits that are passionate about making our communities healthier and stronger.

In 2025, Healthy Living Grants were awarded to 15 organizations totaling $121,500 including Aging Together, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia, Bridge Ministry, Inc., Carver Food Enterprise Center, CDR Resource Center or Community Development Redistribution Resource Center, Culpeper Food Closet, Girls on the Run Piedmont, Hero’s Bridge, Hospice of the Piedmont, Manna Ministry, Mom2Mom, Orange County Free Clinic, Piedmont Area Soap Box Derby, Playdate, Orange County Free Clinic, and Rappahannock Goodwill Industries.

The Healthy Living Grants program was launched in 2015, the Foundation’s first full year of operation. The grants have been offered yearly with the exception of 2020, when funds were diverted to COVID response.

EMY is an integrative practice, uniting the ancient healing methods of energy medicine and the time-honored tradition of yoga. This union works to align and balance the body’s nine energy systems that form the foundation for our health. Classic yoga postures are interwoven with ancient traditional healing modalities including working with the meridian system, tapping, self-massage, holds to calm and regulate the body’s stress responses, and much more. This class with certified EMY practitioner Annette Hyde is for all levels of fitness and familiarity with yoga. Modifications are available.

Oyster Fest is the Free Clinic’s largest fundraiser. The event helps support patients like Frank, who was diagnosed with diabetes prior to a clinic visit and felt overwhelmed. At the Free Clinic, Frank received medical care and prescriptions. He also participated in  diabetes education sessions to learn more about the disease and how to manage it successfully. He expressed appreciation to clinic staff, and told them, “I’ve been working hard on watching my diet and getting exercise. … My blood sugar is right where it is supposed to be and I feel so much better.”

Powell Wellness Center offers two support programs for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease (PD).

Support Group Meeting

The PD support group meets at PWC on the second Wednesday of each month at 11:30 am. There is no fee to join the program, which features discussion and speakers.

Rock Steady Boxing

The Rock Steady Boxing exercise program for individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) has been going strong at PWC since its 2021 launch. This unique program, created and established as a non profit in 2006, improves the ability of people with PD to live independent lives and has spread throughout the US through affiliates such as PWC.

Why boxing? Studies suggest that intense exercise classes such as boxing can be neuro-protective and actually work to delay the progression of symptoms. In 2014, the Cleveland Clinic’s Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health implemented a RSB program, noting that “in a study of RSB, participants who complete 12 weeks of training had measurable improvements in gait, balance and quality of life.”

PWC exercise specialist and personal trainer Bobby Zajkowski is RSB-certified to lead PWC’s program. In addition to his experience at PWC and familiarity with medical fitness programming, as a basketball coach for many years, Bobby brings valuable experience with training and motivation to this new role.

What’s a workout like? With a focus on supporting the functions of daily life, the RSB workout targets hand-eye coordination, speed of movement, flexibility, core strength, agility, mental focus, mood and stress reduction. Workout segments may include bag work, drills, core work, calisthenics and circuit weight training. No boxing experience is necessary and there is no participant-to-participant contact.

RSB workouts accommodate all ages as well as different degrees of PD symptoms and fitness levels. Classes are designed to protect against injury. Participants in RSB find that taking a swing at PD in their group workout creates a community filled with camaraderie, sharing challenges and celebrating victories.

PWC offers classes several times during the week. Prior to registering for RSB, participants will need their doctor’s referral. They will also need an evaluation with Bobby or Whitney prior to program participation.

Monthly pricing (2 classes/week): $50 for members and $100 for non-members (includes access to the facility).

Culpeper Food Closet at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, $5,500 – Distribution of healthy summer snacks for families without access to school meal programs.

Manna Ministry at Culpeper Presbyterian Church, $10,000 – Inclusion of fresh fruits and vegetables and hygiene items in Manna Ministry’s take-home service for community members in need.

Girls on the Run Piedmont, $5,000 – Financial aid to expand program access.

Hero’s Bridge, $10,000 – Battle Buddy community health worker program supporting older veterans.

Hospice of the Piedmont, $7,500 – Grief and healing program for bereaved children ages 4-18.

Mom2Mom, $10,000 – Infant formula for families in need.

Piedmont Area Soap Box Derby, $6,000 – Super Kids car restoration and facility improvements to expand program access for children with developmental challenges.

Playdate: A Children’s Museum, $5,000 – Expansion of financial aid program to support visitation by families in need.

Orange County Free Clinic, $10,000 – Food Pharmacy program to address food insecurity and support access to healthy foods.

Rappahannock Goodwill Industries, $10,000 – Healthcare vocational training and career readiness skills for at-risk individuals.

Foundation president Shari Landry said, “As with previous grant application periods, the 2025 applications reflect the tremendous commitment of local organizations to supporting the health and wellness needs of residents of our three-county service area. These programs are broad in scope, serving the entire population from infants to the elderly, and area needs, from health care vocational training to food security.”
